The “Istanbul Congress Center”, the largest congress and cultural center of Istanbul built by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, was opened on September 17 by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Metropolitan Mayor Kadir Topbas.
Istanbul was selected by the European Union as a cultural capital for 2010. Along with the projects that emphasize the cultural history of the city, there are new projects that realize future image. Among these projects, the Istanbul Congress Center draws attention as a largest congress center in Istanbul.
In addition to the auditorium with a capacity of 3 700 person, Istanbul Congress Center includes multi-purpose meeting halls, fair and exhibition areas of different sizes and aims to be a center for every congress and event.
Total cost is 330 million TL
The foundation of the congress center, which was designed as 7 floors underground and 5 floors aboveground, with a total cost of 330 million TL, was taken on 14 February 2008. Apart from the use of the latest system technology and the simultaneous translation rooms with live broadcasting and 3500 seats, the congress center also has 5 different halls of different sizes ranging from 500 m2 to 1,300 m2.
